01/03/06 CBSE XII English exam
I hadn’t had the best of sleep for I was awake till 2’o clock in the morning (contrary to the doctor’s advice –‘Sleep well before the D-day (exam))
Was it due to anxiety, I don’t know. But there was a sudden urge in me to go through the Back-exercise of the NCERT book for once. I hadn’t ever opened these pages (except while turning the pages while switching between chapters)
It was 8:07am and Akash was here blowing the horns of his patience waiting downstairs on his bike for me. Mama and papa blessed me and gave me a ‘peda’ (a sweet-dish) dipped in yoghurt [traditional--- when you are going out for an exam].
Traditions didn’t end at home, school was even more what you can say tre(n)dy. Each student was bid farewell and the best of luck(because our examination centre was at least 15 miles away and only one of our teachers could go with us) between the ceremonial ‘tilak’ ceremony ( again a tradition - some ‘roli’ a red dye and/or sandalwood paste is applied on the forehead to wish a good beginning)
All this ended up when all of us were packed into 2 school buses. All the fear that had grown up all this while sort of vanished away when we reached the center. As we entered the examination hall the heart started thumping and as if inspired by the poem ‘Freedom’ by Rabindranath Tagore it was all set to break the shackles of my rib cage. The question paper was presented to us, this suppressed the struggle of the heart to break free. I sailed through Section ‘C’ (the literature part) in 75 minutes and the only problem was the reaction of Lady Brecknell to Ernest’s story (from the chapter ‘The Importance of Being Ernest’ by Oscar Wilde). Then I switched over to section B i.e. the writing section through which I glided in an hour only to find myself helpless because of the floods in Europe, well this was the note-making paragraph which dealt with the climatic overhaul in Europe. Besides note-making section A i.e. the reading part had the comprehension which was about the recent industrial revolution in India.
All of us had a jolly of a time giving this paper I guess
